Coach Marlin “Gil” Gilliam
Southfield A’s Head Coach, Marlin “Gil” Gilliam, has more than 30 years of experience coaching baseball. An avid baseball fan and former player, Coach Gil’s dedication and passion for the sport shine through in his commitment to the players, their families, and the community.
Coach Gil focuses on nurturing each player’s unique talents and works with kids one-on-one to harness their natural abilities, build upon their strengths, and overcome obstacles.
His philosophy is simple: Introduce young athletes to the game early and raise their level of competition as their experience grows. That being said, Southfield A’s top priority has and always will be to provide a positive and fun baseball experience.
Coach Mike Jackson
Head Coach Mike Jackson has been coaching with Southfield A’s since 2006 and also coaches middle school baseball at Southfield Christian School. Mike has a well-rounded coaching resume, having also coached tackle football for the Orchard Lake Cardinals in addition to flag football and basketball.
Coach Mike believes in the philosophy of Educational Athletics — an extension of the classroom and educational activity that provides outstanding opportunities to teach life lessons. Mike believes wins are achieved through athletics by developing successful athletes and teams, but more importantly, victories are achieved through the educational experience by developing future community leaders. He enjoys being part of these activities to prepare young men and women for the next level of life.
Coach Jason Horton
Jason Horton has several years of little league and high school baseball experience as a player. Coach Jason is committed to baseball — as both a coach and a baseball dad, with two players of his own. He brings a democratic coaching style to the Southfield A’s, promoting accountability, teamwork, and an athlete-centered experience.
Coach Jason applies baseball experience to life examples for players – using failures as opportunities to develop life skills critical for kids. A positive, successful experience is achievable regardless of height, weight, or other factors. Jason loves that baseball itself does not discriminate.
